This comedy makes up for its utter conventionality by being fairly funny. Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), who co-wrote the script with Michael Ian Black, stars as the flabby, hapless Londoner who enters a marathon to win back the fiancé (Thandie Newton) he left at the altar. Meanwhile, she’s taken up with an overachieving Yank (a pumped-up Hank Azaria). It’s not clear whether love or jealousy is his prime motivator, but you’ll root for this underdog in his race against the stereotypical American.
