My Super Ex-Girlfriend (**1/2)

This middling comedy fluff about a guy who dumps his superhero girlfriend and finds her becoming a stalker is more pleasant than comic.

Wouldn’t it be awful to break up with a needy, jealous superhero? That’s pretty much the concept of this comedy from the pen of Simpsons writer Don Payne. The superhero is Uma Thurman. Think of a female version of Superman (“G Girl” here) whose Clark Kentish alter-ego is no put-on. Luke Wilson woos her, wins her, and regrets it in the first half, then tries to avoid her in the second. Anna Faris is also on hand as an object of jealousy. This is generic fluff competently directed by Ivan Reitman (Ghost Busters, Kindergarten Cop). It doesn’t get too dumb, yet there are few genuine laughs. Unless you think watching Thurman boff Wilson so hard that — get this — the bed breaks is hilarious, save this for cable.
